6 Ups And 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (October 15)

3. Oooooh, A Battle Royal!

As a general rule, battle royals are boring. Don’t agree? Name one truly solid, memorable battle royal from all the WrestleMania matches we’ve seen the last five years. (Not a single moment like Cesaro eliminating Big Show at WM 30, the whole battle royal.)

So on a PPV where women are supposed to be showcased top to bottom, we have both WWE women’s titles on the line, both NXT women’s titles on the line, the Mae Young Classic finals, a tag match involving two Hall-of-Famers, and a battle royal with everyone else on the current roster (and likely some female legends).

Remember Asuka, who won the first women’s Royal Rumble? She’s in the same battle royal as Tamina and Dana Brooke! Same for Nia Jax and up-and-comer Ember Moon.

The point here is that this PPV is supposed to highlight the women on the roster, and aside from title/tournament matches, there is only one other rivalry match, and all the other women are seemingly being tossed into a battle royal.

There were rumors of women’s tag titles being reborn, which could have made for a few interesting matches (or at least an interesting finals) on PPV. Or, you know, create an actual feud for someone in the weeks of build-up you’ve had. Cut out one of the replays of D-Generation X reforming and you’d have the time to air an angle for another match.
