The biggest difference-making win that WWE could give Axel and Dallas at this point is over Rollins and Ambrose for the RAW Tag Team Championships. The Miztourage would have to be taken more seriously, if they are all holding gold come the six-man match at TLC.

Of course, their victory could be achieved through some sort of shenanigans, so long as it is not courtesy of interference from Miz or Maryse. Axel and Dallas have got to be shown to be winners on their own, and this would then strengthen the perception of the unit as a whole.

The commentators can use this victory to talk up The Miztourage’s chances, and try to plant seeds of uncertainty in the minds of fans who cannot possibly see The Shield losing. Even if those chances are very slim, there needs to be an element of doubt for the match to work.

Crowning them champions is not a commitment to pushing Axel and Dallas long term (although booking another capable team in the tag division wouldn’t hurt), but rather a short-term measure to increase the belief that they can beat the full lineup of The Shield. The belts can be immediately returned to Rollins and Ambrose after the pay-per-view.
