Angle and Eddie had matches on WWE television in 2000, 2002 and '03, but they finally got the chance to feud proper in '04. Eddie was the new WWE Champion, having defeated Brock Lesnar at No Way Out and riding high. Kurt, as the other top babyface on Smackdown, was one of his biggest supporters, congratulating Latino Heat on a job well done and trying (but failing) to help him mend fences with nephew Chavo.

Then something happened and Angle snapped. On the February 19th, 2004 episode of Smackdown, guest referee Kurt refused to count Eddie's pin in his championship match with Chavo. He then proceeded to viciously beat Eddie down, drawing blood. In the weeks that followed, Angle would continue to launch attacks at Guerrero, which all lead to a big championship showdown at WrestleMania XX.

There, in Madison Square Garden, Guerrero managed to get the win over Angle in what was a slow-burning thriller. Following that, Angle took some time off from in-ring competition in order to heal his knackered neck, but remained on-screen as the new Smackdown General Manager. As GM, Angle took particularly delight in missing with Eddie, screwing him out of the WWE Title at Great American Bash and then in his cage match rematch on Smackdown.

When he was fit and ready to return to action, Angle naturally revisited his feud with Eddie. The two had another sterling contest at SummerSlam and several others on Smackdown. Their storyline rivalry turned real at backstage at one of those Smackdown tapings, too, when Eddie flew off the handle and tried to attack the Olympic gold medalist for real.

No prizes for guessing who won that one...
