7 Early DISASTERS From WWE In Saudi Arabia

4. The Fiend’s Aura Squashed (Super ShowDown, 2020)

Fiend Goldberg

The moment WWE decided to put the Universal Championship on a horror movie monster like The Fiend, the question everyone asked was who and how would they take the title off Bray Wyatt?

Fiend demolished Seth Rollins at Crown Jewel 2019 and had vanquished every challenger put in front of him with relative ease. Surely, WWE would not be so shortsighted as to simply beat him with a wrestling move.

If you believed that, you didn’t know this era of WWE very well.

WWE called in Goldberg to challenge The Fiend at Super ShowDown in what would be one of the last major shows before the COVID pandemic hit. Goldberg was well past his sell-by date at this point, as the shininess of the WCW legend returning to action had worn off and he had been exposed as an aging, one-note performer who could barely hit that single note correctly.

But on this night at Super ShowDown, all it took was four spears from Goldberg, who then shrugged off a Mandible Claw to finish off The Fiend with a Jackhammer. Nearly a year of building up this horror movie character was rendered moot in three minutes and five wrestling moves. Wyatt would resume his evil ways, but the armor had been pierced.

Goldberg being the one to finally defeat The Fiend, only to quickly lose to Braun Strowman the following month at WrestleMania 36 before disappearing, was typical Vince McMahon booking for the time, falling back on “proven” legends and part-timers in big spots rather than his actual roster of superstars, just further exasperating fans.
