Did anyone really expect Aleister Black to be the revelation he has been? Everyone knew that the former Tommy End was good, but many expressed a fear that WWE wouldn’t know what to do with the Dutchman and he would flounder as a result. Well, the opposite is true, and Aleister Black may well be the most protected man in NXT today.

A couple of months ago it felt as though Roderick Strong was on his way to becoming the next great NXT babyface. The video packages produced about his family life went a long way to adding motivation to a previously-bland character, and Strong dethroning Bobby Roode as NXT Champion seemed like the logical step.

That didn’t happen, and Strong found himself without a dance partner at NXT’s biggest show of the year. TakeOver events usually feature a big singles match between two stars without a championship on the line, and Aleister Black vs. Roderick Strong in the biggest available to NXT right now.

The winner will become a de facto number one contender to boot.
