7 Great Wrestling Heel Runs That Ended Prematurely

1. The Rock (2003)

The Rock was in a very similar position to Batista in 2003, at which time he began to embrace the boos he was receiving on a nightly basis. It started when the crowd turned on him at WrestleMania X8, and again at SummerSlam 2002, and once he resurfaced at the onset of the new year, he completely severed all ties with the fans by going "Hollywood".

This much-needed change in character began with his hilarious rant against the audience in Toronto, where declared himself the greatest superstar in WWE history. It kicked off arguably the most entertaining incarnation of 'The Great One' to date, and every week he would find new ways to insult the audience.

Whether he was hosting his own rock concert or feuding with Goldberg (not to be mistaken with Rock's accountant, Ira Goldberg), Rock was untouchable as a heel. Finally beating Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania XIX was just the cherry on top of it all.

The possibilities were limitless in terms of other amazing rivalries Rock could have had that year, had he not left for La La Land again. That said, fans hold out hope that we have yet to see the last of Hollywood Rock, despite how adored he may be today.
