7 Ground-Breaking Promos That Changed A Career Forever

7. Business Is About To Pick Up

In early 2004, Bradshaw was essentially cannon fodder for the SmackDown tag team division, alongside his partner Faarooq. But when Faarooq was released almost immediately after WrestleMania XX, all that was about to change. Bradshaw was set to become the Blue Brand€™s biggest heel. On the March 25 showing of SmackDown, the beer-drinking, cigar-smoking, card-playing Texan severed the ties to his past gimmick. The stomping chords of his APA entrance were replaced with a rather regal, orchestral tune, and he was clad in the most professional of suits for probably the first time in his pro wrestling career. Bradshaw proceeded to reveal to viewers a vastly revamped persona€”one that played off of his real-life work as a stock market investor and best-selling author. Just weeks later, the newly named John €œBradshaw€ Layfield was challenging Eddie Guerrero for the WWE Championship. After winning the gold, JBL went on to hold the strap for 280 days€”the longest reign in SmackDown history. It was a spectacular turnaround from just a few months prior when he appeared to be going nowhere. And it all originated from that March 25 promo. Just as JBL promised us, business certainly did pick up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6XI63A35gA
