7 Implications Of Alberto Del Rio And Rey Mysterio Defying WWE

6. Ruin Their Legacies

It€™s no secret that Rey Mysterio has amassed a substantial fan base while competing for the WWE. The company has also consistently promoted the luchador as one of their top stars and a perennial fan favorite. Mysterio€™s merchandise is consistently one of the highest sellers and he continues to greatly appeal to kids. Alberto Del Rio also received some of this treatment from the company. While he frequently competed as a hell -- and therefore does not have a strong fan base of kids -- Del Rio was considered a reliable talent with crossover appeal. Now that both superstars have burned their bridges with WWE, their legacies are no doubt in jeopardy. Mysterio was a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame after his eventual retirement. Meanwhile, Del Rio had established a respectable legacy within the company as a solid worker and 4-time World champion. All of these accomplishments and accolades are now worth little in the eyes of WWE. As the company -- and its leaders -- have proved in the past, they are not above holding grudges, even for absurdly long amounts of time. The promotion has proved their pettiness in the past with efforts like €œThe Self-Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior€ DVD -- which has since been rectified. Yes, there€™s the old adage of €œnever say never€ in the world of sports entertainment, but for the time being, there€™s too much friction between all parties.
