The part-time Brock Lesnar character has so much to answer for.

At No Mercy, he (apparently) needed to defeat Braun Strowman, handily, in order to be kept strong for his date with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 34. But, because Strowman is actually around all year long, he needs to be reheated. In order for this to happen, he requires a strong opponent to dismantle. WWE selected Kane - a cultural terror about as relevant as Marilyn Manson - for the task. In order to build Kane as a monstrous threat, he has been booked to decimate an entire generation of talent. Finn Bálor enjoyed a mere 24 hour resurgence as a star before imploding at the hands of a jovial Republican mayoral candidate. Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins also sold for Kane on RAW this week, as if he hasn't been ruined beyond recognition for the last decade and a half.

Meanwhile, the Monster Among Men literally fed off the scraps of the WWE creative team by taking residence in a garbage truck - a different truck to the one he was thrown in at TLC.

By January, the vicious circle will be complete, and we will be expected to take Bálor seriously as a main event-level threat to Lesnar's Universal Title at the Royal Rumble. Really, he's the only logical choice. Lesnar has already soundly thrashed Strowman and Samoa Joe. There is nobody left for him to wrestle - and he's only around about 10 times a year. How does that work? It doesn't.

Kane isn't the real monstrosity here: Brock Lesnar is.
