7 New Directions For WWE After Backlash 2025

1. CM Punk & John Cena One Final Time?

His face may say otherwise since turning heel, but John Cena must be having the time of his life during this retirement run. He's won another WWE Title, headlined WrestleMania 41, wrestled Randy Orton in a red hot St. Louis one last time, and he has bags of other quality moments to look forward to. One of them must be a "Final Battle" vs. CM Punk.

Punk is slated for interview time on this coming Monday's episode of flagship show Raw. There, he'll reveal what's coming next for him. It could be a spot in the men's Money In The Bank ladder match, or maybe Punk will tell the world that he isn't quite finished with Paul Heyman or Seth Rollins. Not many would be gutted if WWE put that on ice in favour of one last showdown between old rivals.

This viewer thought for one tiny second that Punk’s music was going to hit when Cena grabbed the mic and said he wanted competition at Backlash. There are worse ideas on the table than booking that last match between the pair at Money In The Bank or SummerSlam. The latter event is more likely 'cause it's a higher level PLE, but Cena and Punk have rich history at MITB.

Of course, Cena's 'I want competition' rant could be about something else, but fans would pop huge if Punk vs. John was lined up sometime soon. Cena is playing all of his old hits during this retirement saga, so why not? Who thought they'd ever get the chance to see CM Punk and John Cena share the same ring again?

It's now or never.
