7 Positive Things About WWE's 'Invasion' Angle
2. Rock-Austin Singalong
The night before Heyman’s shoot, on the go-home RAW before Survivor Series, two more of the industry’s best talkers cut a promo which is remembered for very different reasons.
Steve Austin and The Rock produced magic whenever they shared a ring together, but on this night in particular they had Boston's FleetCenter eating out of the palm of their hands.
The two great rivals, in the same year that they treated us to the greatest main event in WrestleMania history, took turns snatching the microphone off each another and hilariously mocking the other's catchphrases. It sounds like the type of attempted humour which would make fans cringe in modern-day WWE, but Rock and Austin made it work because of the charisma of the two individuals, and the unmatchable chemistry of the pairing.
The crowd were super into the 15-minute segment - one of the funniest in RAW history - and joined in when The Rock and Austin engaged in a surprising singalong. No wrestling fan from this era can now listen to Delta Dawn without hearing it in Austin’s gravelly voice.
Inevitably this peace did not last as ‘The Great One’ hit the Rock Bottom on Austin before a run in from Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho left the WWE guys standing tall to close the show.
It is worth a watch on YouTube every couple of months.
