Here's your biggest factor: Conor McGregor, UFC featherweight champion, spent the entirety of 2016 fighting two weight classes above featherweight in meaningless fights against Nate Diaz, who has never held a belt in the UFC.

Yes, they were entertaining, two of the best fights of the year. Yes, they were viewed by millions and made millions of dollars, and so successful that a third fight is essentially inevitable, even if it won't happen right away.

However, having been tied up in a pair of meaningless fights for the better part of a year, there are now a number of key fights waiting for McGregor in the UFC that he must give his full attention to:

- a rematch with Jose Aldo, who earned the interim featherweight title by defeating Frankie Edgar at UFC 200

- a shot at the lightweight title, which is held by former Bellator lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez

Then after those, the third Diaz fight, potential big money fights against guys like Edgar, Faber, Cerrone and the possibility of a superfight against someone like GSP or Nick Diaz. Maybe even a full time move up to welterweight.

When you get right down to it, McGregor's future is just too busy for WWE. Sorry, Triple H & Steph, he's not taking your call!
