7 Reasons John Cena Doesn’t Belong On Team SmackDown Live

2. It’s A Wasted Opportunity For A Showcase

SmackDown Live has really built their foundation on being the land of opportunity, especially for up and coming superstars. This Survivor Series team could have been an opportunity to shine a spotlight on newer talent.

Nakamura and Roode would be considered the two “rookies” on the card (if you can call them that with a combined 40+ years experience between them). Orton and, for some reason, Shane MacMahon already represent the established superstars.

The 'Perfect 10' Tye Dillinger is on SmackDown Live’s roster and isn’t doing anything Sunday night. He has a certain overness with the crowd that could have benefited from a rub like this. If not Dillinger, then why not add Chad Gable to the team? With his former tag team partner, Jason Jordan, on Raw it would have created an instantly recognizable conflict.

Regrettably, no. Instead we get the non-surprise of John Cena once again returning to save the day. Sure it probably sells merch, but it sure does get tiresome.
