7 Reasons WWE Is Failing To Engage (And 3 Ways To Solve It)

6. Brass Rings For All!

More championships doesn’t validate accomplishments, it waters them down. For the last five/ten years or so, WWE seemed to think that non-title matches were all the rage. Save the titles for the PPVs. That’s a problem because it doesn’t keep the audience interested in a title chase for the weeks in-between.

WWE's solution was to more than double the amount of titles allotted, spreading them across three shows. More titles means more excitement means more accomplishments and status for wrestlers, right?

No. It doesn’t. What it means is that the concept of a championship itself is now watered down. Who’s the best woman wrestler in the company? The best male wrestler? Tag team? There’s two of each—sometimes three—and it’s nonsense. Yes, title chases and matches can be exciting, compelling storylines on their own merit, but not when we’re inundated with them.

Make me care about the wrestler, not the championship belt he/she is attached to. Expanding the amount of brass rings to grab in order to garner interest is lazy storytelling.
