7 Shawn Michaels WWE Dream Matches We Could Still See

2. The Rock

Once again, HBK and The Great One have priors. Shawn Michaels and The Rock really didn't used to get along, with Rocky convinced that Michaels was trying to sabotage him when he was a rookie on the rise in 1996/7. This was when Michaels' backstage power was at an all-time high, so it's not inconceivable that he'd try and hold back the Blue Chipper. And Michaels did in fact try to meddle with The Brahma Bull's affairs even after leaving the company as a full-time performer; in 2001, Shawn lobbied with WWE management to get the WrestleMania X-Seven main event changed to Steve Austin versus Triple H instead of Stone Cold versus The People's Champion. A programme between the two stars was pitched in the early-to-mid 2000s following Michaels' miraculous comeback, but Rock wasn't interested. He was wary of Michaels and had one eye on Hollywood, anyway. Now, with both men on special appearances only deals, it could be the time to run with it. This is a genuine dream match, two of the best from the Attitude Era finally locking horns. The promos and buildup would doubtless be excellent, and the two would produce a spectacle inside the ring. It's not likely to happen, though - one would have to turn heel, something either would be reluctant to do, and it could be argued that WWE's current demographic would have no interest in seeing the contest, given that the Attitude Era was before their time. This is a ship that might well have sailed but we could still get it, should all the stars line up right. Better late than never, right?
