7 Things We Learned From The Evolution Of Punk Episode 3
6. Punk Makes A Solid Point About His Comic Book Vs. Fighting Careers
Punk makes a good comparison between his two most recent careers paths - professional fighter and comic book writer. While it's not exactly an apples to apples comparison, he does make a valid point.
In the comic book world, no one complained that CM Punk got the chance to write for Marvel just because of his name. It must be said that the community was more welcoming compared to the fight world, where people were extremely upset to see Punk signed by UFC based on name value alone.
Yet think about it. As Punk puts it, no one cares if more comic books are sold because of Punk's name - so why should you care if more people watch a UFC card because of his involvement?
In short, aren't extra eyeballs on an event a good thing?
The flaw in this comparison is that people aren't hurting themselves training to write for comic book publishers, and there's the fact that he still did snag a slot that could have gone to a more experienced writer. Still, it's a good point - some people have gone way overboard when it comes to Punk in the Octagon.
