7 Things We Learned From The Evolution Of Punk Episode 3
2. This Episode Was More About Life Outside Fighting Than In It
As mentioned, the best moments from Hurt had nothing to do with CM Punk getting hurt, or rehabbing his injury, or training. They were the human moments: Punk doing charity work. And Punk spending Christmas with AJ Lee (it's feels a little odd to call them Phil and April, when they've used their stage names for so long), along with their dog.
That might be the standout moment here. The Evolution of Punk doesn't really feel like the start of Punk's fighting career, and it would be lying to say that anything in it has proven Punk to be a world-beater. It has, however, revealed the human side of a superstar: drawing a penis on a gingerbread man so that Fox has to blur it out on the broadcast, something AJ comments on immediately. Putting together a gingerbread house with her on Christmas Eve, and giving a present to their dog.
If The Evolution of Punk feels more like a one-off fight attempt than the start of a career, it does show that Punk has a solid future ahead of him. He's financially secure, has great people around him, a girl he loves - if fighting doesn't pan out, he's not really losing all that much.
Maybe that's what we really learned here.
