7 Ups & 2 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Oct 18)

1. The Real Sami Callihan

Whenever Sami Callihan lets loose while speaking, you know you're in for a treat. But the promo he delivered directly to the camera backstage was something else.

Sami mentioned that he never wanted to be the way that he is, he just wanted to be accepted. 'The Draw' went on to say that all of his memorable moments throughout his Impact career thus far (the Eddie Edwards baseball bat incident, taking Pentagon Jr.'s mask, smashing a bottle over Melissa Santos' head, etc.) weren't intended to happen. He didn't want Sami Callihan to be the twisted guy that we know, but it's the Sami Callihan we all had a hand in creating.

With every moment Sami tried to become more accepted, he messed it up. As a result, we just assumed that's the type of person he was. We just assumed he was the type of guy who would go out of his way to inflict pain and misery upon others. Perhaps the most surprising thing here was that he showed genuine remorse for giving Melissa Santos a piledriver two weeks ago. It wasn't one of those moments where he apologised, and then switched tones - he seemed to genuinely regret his actions.

This was quite possibly the greatest promo Sami's ever done, at least in Impact Wrestling. He spoke from the heart, something we don't often see from the likes of him. Everything about it was pure perfection - from the way he structured it to the fact that he cut out the special effects to keep everything real, it all added together to create a masterpiece in character development. Wonderful stuff.
