7 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (May 29)
Ups...
7. Old Friends?
It was nice to see Andrade 'Cien' Almas involved in something other than a merciless jobber squashing last night. Those matches are fine, but we can only see the former NXT Champion have his way with local enhancement talents for so long. He's going to need a storyline soon, and WWE may have sown the first seeds last night, as Andrade and Zelina Vega met with one of SmackDown's forgotten men.
Almas bumped into WWE's last real shooter, Sin Cara, late in the evening (a dangerous thing to do, particularly if your name is Simon Gotch or Sheamus). The former Lucha Dragon wanted to buddy up with 'Cien,' but nah. Vega was having none of it. She literally brushed her client's jacket off when the new age Haku put a hand on Almas' shoulder and claimed "they go way back," shot the "nobody" down, then found support from Andrade, who backed her up in Spanish.
Though brief, the segment served a purpose. We'll likely get a Sin Cara vs. Andrade Almas match in the near future, which isn't going to sell a building out, but should be fun regardless. Though he rarely appears, Cara has always looked good in enhancement roles, and will put up a stronger challenge than the "local talent" pubes 'Cien' has met thus far. It's a logical step up, and it'll work.
