7 Ups & 2 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Sept 4)

3. An Interesting Choice

Jey Uso

Some fans will be on the fence about Jey Uso as number one contender.

It's out of left field for sure, and yet you just know he and cousin Roman Reigns will slap the snot out of one another at Clash Of Champions. Nobody would be surprised to hear about some pre-match pow-wow months after that pay-per-view, or that both guys had a point to prove on the show.

The only gripe with this one is that Uso pinned Matt Riddle to win the main event Fatal-4-Way when there were two perfectly beatable heels involved in the match too. Riddle didn't need to do the job when 'King' Corbin was there, for example. It's not like he needs to be kept strong for anything in particular right now anyway.

That's splitting hairs, to be fair. Jey's win was one of those genuinely unexpected moments that happens every now and then, and it would've played before a pop if WWE had live crowds instead of delayed video boards. If nothing else, he's someone new in the Universal Title scene.
