7 Ups & 3 Downs from WWE Raw (19 May - Results & Review)

6. Iyo Speaks With Confidence

It’s hard to heap praise on a wrestler delivering a promo that isn’t in their native language without sounding patronizing, but that is the furthest thing from the intention.

When Iyo Sky first started cutting English promos in WWE, they were very short and limited. Thankfully, the company started encouraging their international superstars to speak in their native tongue, which gave fans that memorable Japanese promo battle between Iyo and Asuka two years ago.

But for Sky, being Women’s World Champion means having more screentime and more opportunities to steer the narrative herself. Being able to express herself in English is a boon for her to connect with fans. Monday, Iyo conducted a short backstage interview talking about knowing what it takes to win Money in the Bank and that she was ready for whomever wins the briefcase. She was then interrupted by Becky Lynch.

That brief segment lasted all of 30 seconds, but Iyo sounded confident on the mic and got across her point quickly and directly. While not absolutely necessary, Iyo being able to increasingly take on English promos can only serve her well as a top star in WWE. But another Japanese verbal sparring session would be welcome as well.
