7 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Raw (24 Feb - Results & Review)

Downs…

3. Logan Paul, Heel 101

In a perverse way, having CM Punk come out in a Chicago Teachers Union T-shirt and cut Logan Paul down to open Raw Monday night was a delight. But in reality, Paul was doing the most basic heel promo tactics imaginable – say you’re better than the fans, say you want to leave, insult the local sports team, tell other wrestler he’s jealous of him – as if he was reading a “Heel Promos for Dummies” book backstage.

Punk rightly called Logan out as a “dime-a-dozen loudmouth who says and does incredibly ignorant things for the reaction.” More words were exchanged, but it felt more like treading water ahead of Saturday rather than setting the table for a feud or raising anticipation for the Elimination Chamber.

Sure, fans will pop for Punk getting his hands on Paul to get revenge for the slap from Monday night, but you didn’t leave this promo feeling any more excited for the men’s chamber than you already were. It was just an opportunity to get two of the participants on screen to try to turn up the heat between them.

Paul is a natural heel and does have the potential to really connect as a hated villain, but it feels like he’s regressed to tropes and basic tactics.
