7 Ups & 3 Downs from WWE Raw (26 May - Results & Review)

1. Entertaining Main Event, If Predictable

Seth Rollins telegraphed the outcome of the main event two-plus hours earlier when he declared that the Money in the Bank briefcase was essential to his heel stable’s plan. Even the announcers admitted this themselves during the main event. Anything less would have been a huge setback for the young group.

While it was easily predictable, that doesn’t mean by any stretch that the main event was boring. Thankfully, the path taken to get to that point was solid and entertaining, with Sami Zayn, Finn Balor, and Rollins constantly trading the upper hand between them. Zayn is just so easy to love as a babyface, struggling and nearly overcoming Rollins and Balor’s attacks and the interference from Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed.

Sure, the match ran on for a good while before getting to both the predictable interference from Rollins’ running buddies Reed and Breakker and the predictable outcome, but the action was hot in the arena.

Then WWE added a cherry on top with a surprise CM Punk hit-and-run attack, sneaking in from the crowd to lay Rollins out with a Go-to-Sleep. Punk taking on the Attitude Era “Stone Cold” Steve Austin role isn’t something many had on their bingo cards, but it was a welcome addition that offset the predictable nature of the main event.

The puzzle pieces comprising the Raw main event scene continue to fit together well, with each combination producing interesting results. If WWE can continue that and then execute with the matches, they could have a fun summer ahead.
