7 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE Raw (2 Sept - Results & Review)
6. Rhea’s Boys Win
Let’s call Monday Night Raw’s show-closing tag match a solid house show main event, because that really is what fans got: a send-them-home-happy bout in which the heels were rebuffed by the babyfaces, who stood tall to end the show.
Jey Uso teamed with Damian Priest (at Rhea Ripley’s request) to defeat the World Tag Team Champions Finn Balor and JD McDonagh. The action was perfectly fine, with Balor avoiding Priest as much as possible until Damian got the hot tag and ran wild.
The high point came when Liv Morgan interfered and Rhea hobbled out to confront her, then used her crutch to chase the women’s champion off. This left it a fair fight, and Priest and Uso were able to put McDonagh away, leaving Finn to fume and stare down Damian.
In addition to the eventual Priest/Balor match, Ripley’s continued pursuit of Morgan and her Women’s World Championship was weaved in here, as was a more subtle reality: Jey picked up a victory over the tag champs. If he goes on to win the Intercontinental Championship tournament and then loses to Bron Breakker, it might be a wakeup call that he needs to refocus on the tag division, perhaps alongside another wrestler pursuing singles gold who might come up short in the near future.
