7 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (20 Feb - Results & Review)
Ups...
7. Twin Women’s Division Winners
Onto the 'Ups', and there are a lot of them.
This fan actually liked how hard fought a win it was for Tiffany Stratton over Alba Fyre, and it was nice to see Alba get more ring time than usual. Meanwhile, Chelsea Green was a riot at ringside as she sat in a wheelchair and somehow still commanded attention from the crowd. What a credit to the women's division she is.
Elsewhere, Rhea Ripley beat Giulia by DQ when Lash Legend and Nia Jax ran in, but Giulia was showing her best before that moment. She'll be heartened by that after watching her pal Kiana James burst through the so-called glass ceiling earlier in the night. Things haven't exactly been going swimmingly for Giulia on the main roster, but she looked well-matched to 'Mami' here, and Ripley bent over backwards to pull her peer up.
Both of these matches were fairly similar in terms of quality, which is why they’re lumped together. You honestly can’t argue with what WWE put on with either. They were functional bouts within the context of SmackDown overall, but both were well worked and played before polite responses from Fort Lauderdale. In that sense, Stratton vs. Fyre and Ripley vs. Giulia scratched an itch.
The quartet bridged a few gaps before major segments/matches on the show without killing the crowd, and they deserve plaudits for that. It's a promising sign for Giulia that her heat sections vs. Rhea had fans begging to see the babyface roar back. Plus, Tiffy's triumph kept her busy until Chamber.
