Ted Dibiase and Virgil's relationship had collapsed at the Royal Rumble when the bodyguard at long last refused to follow his gaffer's orders, and it was here he stepped into the spotlight for the first time against his old oppressor.

Everything came up Virgil at the 'Show Of Shows' other than the result of the match itself. His time with the Million Dollar Title would eventually come at SummerSlam, but this clash was more about him repaying the teachings of ringside advisor Rowdy Roddy Piper by coaxing the injured 'Hot Scot' to his feet after Dibiase had previously decked him.

The end of the match also brought the Million Dollar Man together with a Sensational Sherri shrewdly scouting her newest "meal ticket". This itself made immediately smart use of the character following her severance with Randy Savage.
