7 Ups And 0 Downs For WWE NXT TakeOver: Stand And Deliver Night 1 (Apr 7)
3. Walter Breaks Ciampa's Blackheart
In the wake of having his chest very nearly chopped off his person a few weeks ago, seemingly rediscovering his Blackheart in the process, Tommaso Ciampa would attempt to bring the 700+ day UK title reign of the indomitable WALTER to an end next.
Refusing to be intimidated by the unbeatable force in front of him, Ciampa exploded early on with an intense beatdown of the Champion in the corner, only to be obliterated by the freight train that is a speeding WALTER. An announce table breaking chop by the United Kingdom title holder later, Ciampa was given a daunting warning of what could become of his pectorals.
Sensing he needed to address this touch of death, the former NXT Champion targeted his rival's gigantic right paw, nullifying his grip strength too. A deluge of clotheslines capable of bringing a lesser man down with one shot still couldn't topple the Ring General, however, as WALTER finally unleashed his signature weapon. But instead of crumbling to the mat, Ciampa Tommaso-ed up!
Reminding us that even a one-armed WALTER is still a frightening proposition, the Champion soon let rip with a powerful release German suplex and lariat combo before later clubbing the clinical Ciampa with his still in tact left limb. But not even a top rope air raid crash could put this monster away. In short, it was going to take something pretty special to conclude this slog.
And that's precisely what we got as the all conquering WALTER clung onto his belt on the back of a sleeper suplex and a desperate, crippled right-hand chop for the victory.
Make no mistake about it, this was by far the most difficult defence of the titan's UK Championship tenure. Also, if Ciampa's valiant showing was anything to go by, the defeated man's Blackheart is once again beating for all to hear.
