7 Ups And 0 Downs From WWE NXT Great American Bash (Jul 6)
3. Shirai And Stark Find Their Way, Tegan Nox Returns!
A lot was made about the fact that Io Shirai and Zoey Stark were merely two successful singles stars thrown together for a shot at tag titles glory. Whilst the current reigning NXT Women's Tag Team Champions were a more cohesive and solid unit; some might even call them a family - Vin Diesel, for example.
Yet, one glimpse at the shift put in by the make-shift pairing last night proved all those doubters wrong as the terrific twosome frequently combined their equally emphatic arsenals to make Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell regret ever possessing the belts in the first place. Stark in particular highlighted why she's quickly gone on to become one of the most vital cogs in the star-studded women's division, selling like a champ and making you believe each and ever kick, punch, and knee was as savage as it was aesthetically pleasing.
In the end, though, it was the anticipated return of one Tegan Nox that tipped the scales in the challenger's favour as the battery icon reached complete charge and the Welsh sensation caused an unwanted distraction for The Way. One explosive K-360 later, we had a pair of new title holders, with Stark earning her first piece of gold in WWE in the process.
This will likely segway into a compelling rekindling of a feud between a pissed off Nox and regretful Le Rae over the coming months which will hopefully distract the storyline away from more In-Dex nonsense - but don't get your hopes up, if the closing stages of the segment were anything to go by.
For now, however, let's look past the fact the titles resemble a pair of glistening white hot potatoes and focus on the absolute bangers Shirai and Stark will put on with the rest of this now-frequently entertaining division.
