7 Ups And 10 Downs From WWE Fastlane 2019

2. McMahons Heel It Up

Remember way back in December when the McMahons walked out to open Raw and admitted that the ratings were in the toilet because fans had grown tired of a stale product and seeing authority figures rob fans of matches they wanted to see?

Yeah, neither do the McMahons.

It’s funny, because this column will compliment the after-effects later, but right now, the McMahons being front-and-center to heel things up is just ridiculous. Vince, who was all but written off as an on-screen character, has showed up to slap AJ Styles and screw over Becky Lynch and Kofi Kingston. Shane went from being an on-screen commissioner to tag team champion to heel who attacked The Miz in his hometown.

And yeah, the purpose here is to get those wrestlers over, but “more McMahons” is always WWE’s solution to these issues. Rather than actually writing smart storylines, they always fall back on using a McMahon or two to drive the point home.

Even after that big speech in December talking about getting out of the way and starting a new era, it’s looking like just more of the same from McMahon World.
