7 Ups And 10 Downs From WWE Fastlane 2019
1. Becky Stumbles Into Mania
Of all the stupid, backhanded ways to get Becky Lynch to WrestleMania…
Look, it’s understandable that WWE didn’t necessarily want Lynch to beat Charlotte Flair clean to earn her trip to Mania for the Raw Women’s Championship, especially when she was dealing with a bum knee, but that’s the writer’s fault for booking themselves into a corner. And then they had Ronda Rousey serve as the obvious “out” for them, walking into the ring and striking Becky once to force a DQ, because Lynch is in Rousey’s head.
But seriously, what an absolutely stupid way this entire Becky storyline had unraveled.
The Man is the anti-hero who has to scrap and claw her way past the chosen ones of management (sound familiar?). She wins the Royal Rumble, gets injured and refuses to see a doctor. She finally does, is reinstated and her title match is on… until Vince McMahon screws her over and strips her of her title shot. Becky is suspended but keeps attacking Rousey and Flair until her suspension is lifted and she competes at Fastlane, where Ronda bails the wounded Lynch out by causing a DQ.
It’s an insanely convoluted storyline that has a bunch of added twists and turns for the sake of having them. Instead of The Man heading into Mania with momentum from having fought her way into the main event, she has Rousey to thank for her title shot because she goaded Ronda into it.
Ridiculous all the way around. Thank God this will most likely be an awesome match regardless, but the angle surrounding it will hopefully be tossed on the ash heap of history… and maybe the writers responsible will be too.
