7 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's NXT (April 15)
Downs
4. That-Ain't Gonzales*
What is the point in Racquel Gonzales?
Her debut at TakeOver gave us a cheap finish to a great match, but it at least felt like NXT had stumbled into a really great new addition to the women's division. Absolutely filled to bursting with agile and technical stars, the one thing it felt like it was missing was an out-and-out bruiser, and having her play the enforcer in Dakota Kai's revelation work as a heel felt like a great fit.
Since then though, she pretty much routinely serves as a lumbering, useless, heavy for a woman who, despite being presented as a cowardly, sniveling heel, routinely doesn't seem to need her. Pinning Nox with cage door aside, she's not contributed anything of note for Kai's ambitions. She just gets battered by the very women she's there to "crush".
On paper, there's no shame in her losing to Nox, and there's definitely none when Shotzi Blackheart technically interfered, but none of the groundwork to make her look like a killer has been put in place yet, so nobody really benefits from this match. Weird.
*like, Giant Gonzales?? Look it was a long night, that's the best I've got.
