It’s hard to find a fan of the three-man booths that WWE insists on employing, and the third person in the booth in recent years has reinforced that position.

Byron Saxton. Jonathan Coachman. Booker T. Renee Young. All of them have been the “third person” in the booth in recent years, and none of them have really been missed since leaving the announce desk. In some cases, their departures were causes for celebration because they were so disappointing.

Dio Maddin is new to announcing, having only called matches on 205 Live for a brief period before being promoted to Raw a couple weeks ago. And while he started out slow, he’s progressively improved.

Monday night, he had a good couple moments, dropping an SAT word to describe Ricochet’s three-dimensional spatial awareness, and later calling all the way back to NXT to explain the relationship between Zelina Vega and Andrade, detailing how she helped the luchador focus on in-ring results.

That’s more than we’ve seen any of the other four mentioned above do in recent years, so maybe we’ve got something here.
