7 Ups And 8 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Sept 5)

6. Some Semblance Of Direction

The best of seven series between Sheamus and Cesaro announced last month has not been handled particularly well. It was not given any stakes initially, other than letting one guy establish “physical dominance.”

But lately, both men have talked about the winner receiving a title opportunity. Whether that’s the Universal Championship or United States Championship, at least there’s a reason to win other than bragging rights. That title shot at least makes the matches a little more important. And while it’s almost comical to see Cesaro wrapped in kinesio tape around his shoulder and back, it still added to the building drama of the rivalry.

Sure, personal preference would have seen Cesaro sweep Sheamus to actually elevate himself to being a top challenger, period. Trading wins with Sheamus and ultimately having one of them win 4-3 is a cheap way out, as its just one match that could have gone either way. But at least WWE is giving this some direction and consistency. It’s not nearly as exciting as you might want, but at least things are moving forward with this.
