7 Ups And 8 Downs From WWE Raw (Dec 9)

2. SNL Homage Falls Flat

No. Just no.

Someone on the writing staff decided that ripping off Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update with the Street Profits – complete with canned laugh track – was a great idea. That person should be fired.

Before getting in the ring on Raw, the Profits made their introductions by serving as unofficial hosts/hype men for the red brand, plugging PPVs and chatting up matches for the evening. Monday, this taped skit served that purpose, with Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford playing the role of Weekend Update anchors reading stories about TLC matches with lame jokes.

The segment played to silence in the arena, and it wasn’t helped by the fact that the Street Profits had just lost to the Viking Raiders in a tag title match earlier in the night, and it was brushed off as a joke, when they could have added a challenge to a rematch for the PPV since they were right there.

Hopefully, this will be a one-time skit that never sees the light of day again. But if Vince McMahon found it funny…
