7 Ups And 9 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Oct 17)

2. Welcome Back Goldberg

If you didn’t have a soft spot in your heart for Goldberg after you saw his reaction to the fans in the ring, then you really are just cruel.

The former WCW and WWE champion clearly started tearing up as fans continuously chanted his name, having to catch himself and take a few deep breaths. It was obvious that he was impacted by that reception. To his credit, Goldberg kept his composure and gave the fans a nice little synopsis of his post WWE life (considering that promos never were his strong suit, he handled an open mic well).

But the part that was the most telling was how he said he missed being a superhero to kids in the audience – and then spent a great deal of time walking around ringside hugging kids left and right. It was great to see him putting his words into practice and made him look even more sincere. We can criticize WWE for bringing in another part-timer for a payday, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy Monday’s return.

Scott is a former journalist and longtime wrestling fan who was smart enough to abandon WCW during the Monday Night Wars the same time as the Radicalz. He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
