7 Ups From Last Night's WWE NXT (April 6)
5. The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived
The next clip package focused on the Austin Aries-Baron Corbin match, and it pulled off quite a feat - it actually made the bout look good. For all of Aries's skill, he couldn't bring Corbin up to the level of everyone else on the show. Given his size advantage, "The Lone Wolf" naturally controlled most of the match, and a particularly long nerve hold from Corbin drew chants of "Boring!" from the sellout crowd.
Still, it's hard to give the bout too much flak when longtime independent standout Aries actually picked up the clean victory. Corbin won WrestleMania's battle royal two days later and jumped right into a feud with Dolph Ziggler on Raw, but he did give Aries the rub on his way out.
Aries's promo was interesting in the sense that he didn't really play a babyface or a heel - he simply mentioned that he's going to take NXT by storm. Given the call-ups of Apollo Crews and Corbin, as well as Samoa Joe's failure to win the title in two chances, Aries could be a challenger to Finn Balor before long.
