7 Ways WWE Can Improve Baron Corbin
6. Make Him 'The Giant Slayer'
Seemingly out of nowhere, Baron Corbin won this year’s Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, and while it was a refreshing way to end what is essentially WrestleMania’s resident also-ran, the WWE missed a prime opportunity to push Corbin as a giant. He ended up losing to Dolph Ziggler a few weeks later, and his star has been fading ever since.
So, you either try to sweep as much of the last six months under the rug as you can, or you have Corbin win the Memorial Battle Royal again. Let’s take the former scenario, just to keep things fresh.
Corbin walks out on an episode of SmackDown, and the Andre trophy is standing in the ring. Instead of folding his arms next to it like an awkward Big Show knockoff, he wipes a single finger along the side of it. “Dust”, he says, holding up a filthy grey digit to the camera. “This worthless piece of metal has been gathering dust since the day I won it. What has it brought me?” He goes on to explain that, while he was initially excited to win the trophy, he has since realised the error of his ways. “This trophy represents past giants, I am the future of giants.” Mic drop, followed by a marked show of physical disrespect towards the trophy itself (depending on how expensive that thing is, it looks like it could easily be made out of Thorntons chocolate).
The Big Show comes out to argue in favour of Andre, before he eats a couple of big boots and whatever finishing move Corbin can actually perform on him. This then leads to a string of victories against other giants like Kane, Mark Henry, and the more beatable members of the Wyatt family. Brand split-willing, it could even lead to a Giant vs Giant match against Braun Strowman, where the winner gets to steal Christmas.
