7 Ways WWE Can Improve Baron Corbin
5. Make Him 'The Indie Killer'
You can probably tell from this list, that I think Baron Corbin should kill things. Not “Pillman’s Got a Gun” kill things, more “Asuka’s Gonna Kill You” kill things. With that in mind, a sure-fire way for Corbin to attract heat would be for him to dismantle the indie darlings WWE is now being built upon. It makes sense, given that Corbin is a former football player and graduate of the performance centre – you could easily see him being frustrated when the limelight is given to the likes of Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and AJ Styles.
He already showed shades of an ‘Indie Killer’ gimmick on NXT, when he screamed “Go back to Ring of Honor” at Apollo Crews. It was arguably the most successful thing he’s done during his time on WWE TV. All he needs to do is take this to the next level. Cut some promos on how he’s been left behind, while the gullible fans back washed-up indie veterans. Have him disrespect Daniel Bryan, and let him work his way through enough indie stars before he’s ready to tackle the likes of AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and even Shinsuke Nakamura.
Of course, a lot of this depends on future NXT call-ups, but there’s no reason why WWE can’t lay down the groundwork now. It’ll give Corbin a ready-made fast-lane to the main event scene, where he can learn a lot from more experience workers.
