7 Ways WWE Have Made Bayley Look Stupid

4. "I'm Just Happy To Be Here!"

Bayley isn’t the kind of character who should appear 100% cool, calm, and confident all the time. Her relatable, human flaws are a huge part of her appeal, and the fact that she's not as self-assured as her counterparts makes you want to root for her as she climbs the ladder. An underdog's not an underdog without weakness, after all.

Balance is important, however. Swing too far in the opposite direction, and the character looks like a bumbling loser who’s not even in the same league as her opponents. Unfortunately, that has been the prevailing narrative throughout Bayley’s main roster run, particularly when she gets on the microphone, and regurgitates the same “gee, shucks! I’m just happy to be here!” promo on a near-weekly basis.

NXT struck the perfect balance between confidence and weakness, but Raw’s Bayley looks like a rabbit in the headlights. This is a performer who held the NXT Championship for 224 days, and scored a big victory at WrestleMania 33, but WWE make her out to be a second-class wrestler, and somebody who lucked into her current spot. She’s continually outsmarted, out-talked, and beaten down by her enemies, which doesn’t just insult her intelligence, but the audience’s too.
