1. Bill Goldberg And Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho was a very entertaining heel in WCW in 1998 as Goldberg ascended to the top of the roster and eventually became the WCW World Champion that summer. Jericho did all kinds of promos talking about how he wanted to face Goldberg. He mocked him a lot, calling him "Greenberg" and things like that. They never had a match, though. Goldberg was a top guy while Jericho was a midcarder, so Goldberg refused it. Here's how Jericho explained it years later: "People wanted to see him kick my ass (on TV in a worked match), and that's what I wanted him to do. This was when he was in the middle of his winning streak, and the office wanted to end this in a two minute squash match, as we call them, with him just Spearing me and Jackhammering me. I refused to do it because people wanted to see this match, and they were going to pay for it. I wanted to have a match on a pay-per-view, and he could kick the s**t out of me in a minute if that's what they wanted, but at least people would be paying to see it - not seeing it on free TV as just another guy that was part of his streak." Less than a year later, Jericho left WCW for WWE and he said that the way that storyline was handled was a big reason why he left because he knew he could never make it to the top. Obviously he made the right call. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xzcq2_wcw-nitro-goldberg-vs-chris-jericho_sport Goldberg debuted in WWE in 2003 after Jericho had been there for four years. They had a feud leading to a match at Bad Blood 2003 that Goldberg won. It was just an average feud because Goldberg wasn't very good. The most interesting part of their run in WWE together was that they had a backstage fight where people say Jericho actually won since he had Goldberg locked in a headlock that he couldn't get out of. The fact that they had a WCW feud that never was that turned into a WWE rivalry with a backstage fight and a high profile match just shows how serious their issues were.
