7 Wrestlers Who Quit WWE Over Angles

4. Jon Moxley

Jon Moxley has not been shy over explaining the many, many reasons why he pulled the wool lined jacket over Vince McMahon and WWE's eyes in duping the company into letting him go, only to turn up on AEW's inaugural PPV, Double or Nothing, this past May.

Chief amongst the former Dean Ambrose's legitimate complaints was a creative direction which constantly asked him to, in his own words, "lie" to the fans. However, mis-selling his character thanks to shoddy scripts was a drop in the ocean compared to the absolute toxicity Vince and co. tried to place in his mouth following his late 2018 heel turn.

Ambrose had already been asked to exploit Roman Reigns' very real leukaemia diagnosis by turning on his Shield buddies the very same night of the announcement. But it didn't end there: WWE's writers wanted him to further leverage the situation, in spite of the distress it might cause many viewers at home. Ambrose implicitly told the audience Reigns' illness was God's judgement. Disgusting as that was, it was a sanitised version; according to Moxley, he was fed a line so horrific that sponsors would have pulled out.

Already uncomfortable with the angle, he flat-out refused to repeat it. It was one of many straws finishing the camel's back off.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
