For years now, fans have resigned themselves to the fact of Roman Reigns besting Brock Lesnar for the WWE title in the main event of WrestleMania. It's been nearly half a decade of the same old story, and the same old crushing inevitability.

But it's never actually happened.

The crowd didn't reject the first pair's struggle at WrestleMania 31 with the same toxic enmity they reserved for the 2018 sequel, however. Back then, it was a case of getting it over and done with, so we could all move on.

It didn't happen. Seth Rollins hit the ring to thwart the Roman comeback peaking over the horizon and cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase, and Santa Clara collectively "lost their sh*t," as it were.

The switch came as a a surprise to Rollins himself, who alleged he had no idea he was walking away from the Levi's title aloft until minutes before the main event. Whether WWE's creative heads made the call there and then or planned it all along is unknown, but either way it turned a procession into one of the most memorable moments in WrestleMania history. Just a shame that, in hindsight, it consigned us to three more years of purgatory.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
