The sight of Kurt Angle rising behind his idols like a proud mascot in full Shield kit at last year's TLC simply capped off what had been one very peculiar set of circumstances.

Heading into the show, 'humdrum' was the watch word. The Shield set to take on an 'insurmountable' gang of five, and everybody and their dog and their dog's fleas predicted a near-certain heroic Roman Reigns emerging against the odds.

Then things went viral.

Two days prior to the show, a sudden outbreak of illness consigned WWE's Canis Maximus to his sick bed, and WWE were left with a bit of a problem on their hands. Breaking with pro-wrestling tradition, the promotion decided against short-changing their paying punters, and instead went above and beyond what was necessary for a replacement. In fact, they went above and beyond above and beyond.

For the first time in eleven years, the Olympic Hero turned Olympic GM would pull on the star-spangled lycra for the organisation - in the role of substitute teacher. Suddenly, the wrestling world was absolutely buzzing with anticipation. WWE really had went viral.
