8 Amazing Wrestlers That FLOPPED In WWE
4. Toni Storm
After capturing hearts on the British wrestling circuit, and a legendary run in Japan's Stardom that saw her hold the SWA World Championship for a record-setting 612 days and the prestigious Cinderella Tournament, WWE came knocking and Ms. Storm answered the call.
It initially felt as though WWE was going to position Toni Storm at the head of the NXT women’s division. After defeating Iyo Sky (then Sharai) in the final of the Mae Young Classic in 2018, Storm's NXT run involved plenty of high-profile matches, including great encounters with Rhea Ripley and a sensational NXT Women's Championship match loss to Shayna Baszler, and yet she only ever felt peripheral. It would only go downhill from here for Toni, as following her call-up to SmackDown, she would be humiliated soon after her debut with a custard pie to the face by then WWE Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair.
Five days after losing her sole title match against Flair, Storm would ask for and be granted her release, later admitting in an interview with Renee Paquette that the company had “crushed her love for wrestling”, before her phoenix-like glow up to becoming 'Timeless' Toni Storm in AEW.
