8 Best Brock Lesnar Matches Since Defeating The Streak
3. Brock Lesnar Vs. John Cena: SummerSlam 2014
Brock Lesnar’s first match since defeating The Streak caught everyone off guard. Facing John Cena at SummerSlam for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, what Lesnar did will never be forgotten. The pre-match promo is full of gold from Lesnar, as he throws out classic one-liner after classic one-liner. It’s also interesting to listen to Cena in the second part of the promo, as he predicts exactly how the match will go. The only difference between Cena’s prediction and reality was the winner of the match.
A developing trend in Lesnar’s matches, the first minute is so intense. Hitting an F-5 within 30 seconds, no one could’ve predicted what was in store for the next 20 minutes. As the match continues and Lesnar delivers suplex after suplex, you can literally hear Jerry Lawler’s heart breaking. Pleading with the WWE Universe and Cena not to give up, fans were just waiting for Cena’s comeback. The second comeback minutes later showed there were still signs of life. By Cena's third comeback, you’re kicking yourself for really believing he’d lose in such a one-sided contest. And Cena’s fourth comeback has you seriously doubting everything.
This match was the perfect way to back-up Lesnar’s WrestleMania triumph. Obliterating the face of the company in such a repetitious, humiliating way proved that WWE were going all in with Lesnar. The catalyst for the “Suplex City” gimmick, it’ll be a very long time before fans see another WWE PPV Main Event like this one. With that said, there is a case to be made that Lesnar vs. Goldberg II could be a watered down version of this match. WWE’s love for rubber matches suggests that Lesnar will be victorious this Sunday. What remains to be seen is if Goldberg will be saying “I got my ass kicked” or “I got screwed.”
