8 Best Masked Wrestling Returns
6. Mr. America
Here's one that makes the list more for its sheer, silly audacity than any credibility or mystery involved.
After their war at WrestleMania XIX, Mr. McMahon sent Hulk Hogan home to sit out the rest of his contract. Not long after, Smackdown! General Manager Stephanie McMahon hired Mr. America, sight unseen, and welcomed him to the roster.
And so, Hogan donned the most paper-thin disguise since Jimmy Valiant became Charlie Brown from Outta Town, decking himself out in the colors of the Stars and Stripes as Mr. America.
Mr. America went on to pass a lie detector test, pair up with one-legged wrestler Zach Gowan, team with Kurt Angle(!) and Brock Lesnar(!) in a six-man tag, and generally mug for the camera as only Hulk Hogan can, putting the supposed "entertainment" into "sports entertainment."
After revealing his identity to the camera, Mr. America was fired from the company (in a storyline that mirrored real life, as McMahon let Hogan go around this time).
