8 Craziest Fighters From The Early UFCs

4. Gerard Gordeau (2-2)

In the first-ever UFC fight, Gerard Gordeau immortalised himself in MMA history by defeating sumo wrestler Teila Tuli. As the behemoth charged towards him, Gordeau peppered his opponent with punches before delivering a vicious head kick that left several of Tuli's teeth becoming stuck in the Dutchman's foot.

Gordeau's striking style was brutal even by the standards of the early UFC but proved effective enough to see him in the final of the first event, against Royce Gracie, and while Gracie would ultimately prevail, allegations that Gordeau had bitten his opponent proved that the savate fighter was willing to do whatever it took to find success.

It would be Gordeau's fourth, and final, MMA fight that earned him his place on this list, however. In a bout with shoot wrestler Yuki Nakai at the 1995 Vale Tudo Japan Tournament, Gordeau found success early landing strikes then using the ring ropes to defend the takedown attempts of his significantly smaller opponent. Then, while caught in a clinch in the corner of the ring, Gordeau repeatedly illegally gouged Nakai's eyes. Though Nakai would ultimately prevail via submission but would be left blind in one eye for the rest of his life.

To make things worse, when asked whether he regretted his actions Gordeau showed no remorse for permanently injuring Nakai and stated he would do it again if the pair rematched.
