"How should we introduce this young, mysterious trio of mavericks that are going to wreak havoc on the rest of the WWE roster for the foreseeable future? I'm thinking something like the nWo...""Turtlenecks.""What about 'em?""Turtlenecks an excellent tactical garment. Simple, breathable, flexible. You put your guys in turtlenecks and they'll be at their most intimidating and comfortable.""[Sigh] Fine."

That's probably the actual conversation between Vince McMahon and members of his creative team that led to The Shield's peculiar wardrobe choice at their Survivor Series debut.

Each member of the faction has since spoken in various interviews about the awkwardness of wearing those turtlenecks, and each of them realized right away it was something that had to be changed. It's hard to imagine The Shield becoming such a formidable stable if they'd kept the ill-fitting tops.

Seth Rollins also mentioned that the group was originally supposed to carry props to the ring: Plastic riot shields with the word "SHIELD" emblazoned on them in giant letters. Because WWE's creative meetings are, as we've always suspected, uncontrollable shindigs that occasionally feature conversations about wrestling.
