8 Non-Wrestlers Who Were Wrestling Champions

2. Vince Russo - WCW Champion

Vinny Ru has become famous in the wrestling world for a great many things. However, being WCW World Champion is not chief among them. Though, that does not take away from the fact that he did hold the proverbial 10 pounds of gold. Yes, Vince Russo was WCW€™s Champion. In his defense, it was only for a week and his win was a complete fluke. However, Russo himself booked the angle, and much like the rest of his storylines in WCW, it just didn€™t work. Following 2000€™s Fall Brawl PPV, which saw Booker T dethrone Kevin Nash for the WCW title, Vince Russo booked himself in a championship match. Booker was forced to defend the gold against Russo on the September 25th edition of Nitro in a steel cage match. To the shock of everyone, Russo won the title. However, his victory would come with a price. A strange sort-of melee took place at the conclusion of the match. Goldberg came down and entered the cage, meanwhile Scott Steiner€™s attempt to come in was thwarted by Booker T. Russo saw his opportunity and sprinted for the cage door, but he was suddenly cut off by Goldberg. Big Bill speared Russo through the cage and into the guardrail -- giving Vince a legitimate concussion. However, because Russo was thrown through the cage and to the floor, he was declared the winner of the match and the new WCW World Heavyweight Champion. The following week, on Nitro, Russo forfeited the championship. A match was made to determine a new champion that night. Booker T did battle with Scott Steiner, ultimately coming out the victor. So, essentially, the belt went right back to Booker and the whole Russo as champion saga was a pointless endeavor.
