8 Reasons Why WWE Women’s Tag Division Has Failed

4. Disappearing IIconics

Speaking of the lack of PPV title defenses after that hot start, you could say the same thing about the second women’s tag champs.

At WrestleMania 35, the IIconics incredibly won the titles in a four-way match, short-circuiting Sasha Banks & Bayley’s inaugural title reign at seven weeks, one of the shortest reigns on the books. The IIconics had a few televised matches in the week following Mania, but then they disappeared from TV for a month.

The duo had a handful of matches during the following month before once again vanishing from the ring for another month. They resurfaced to lose a title defense by count-out in July, and then would lose the tag titles three weeks later, ending a thoroughly unimpressive four-month run.

Having your second tag champs disappear from the ring for more than half of their reign was a terrible look and immediately devalued the tag titles as little more than props rather than something being sought after by the women on Raw, SmackDown and NXT.
